Is Your Gut Asking For Help? 5 Signs to Pay Attention to

IBS Awareness Month: Sign's your gut needs more support from a dietitian

Hi Reader,

I want to talk about something I see all the time in my practice.

People waiting way too long to get support for their gut. Not because they don’t care.
But because they’ve been told their symptoms are “normal,” “just stress,” or something they need to figure out on their own.

So they keep pushing through.

Ignoring the signs. Trying one more food rule. One more supplement. One more Google search.

But your gut has a way of speaking up.

And when we don’t listen early on, your symptoms tends to get louder.

Here are a few signs your gut might be asking for a reset and more importantly, support:

  1. You’re constantly thinking about food What to eat. What to avoid. What might trigger symptoms. It feels like your brain never gets a break. That’s not food freedom. That’s food stress.
  2. Your symptoms keep coming back (even when you’re “doing everything right”) Maybe you’ve tried low FODMAP. Cut out dairy. Gone gluten-free. And yet… the bloating, pain, or unpredictable bathroom trips still show up. This isn’t a willpower issue. It’s a sign you need a more personalized, sustainable approach.
  3. You’re starting to avoid social plans because of your gut You check menus ahead of time. You feel anxious eating out. You’ve said “no” to things you actually want to do. Your world shouldn’t have to shrink because of your gut.
  4. You feel confused about what your body needs There’s so much conflicting advice out there. One person says cut foods. Another says add more fiber. Another says “heal your gut” with supplements. No wonder you feel stuck.
  5. You’re stuck in a cycle of restriction → symptoms → more restriction This one is big.

Because you can’t heal a starved gut with more restriction.

At some point, the body needs nourishment, consistency, and safety to actually calm down.

Here’s the truth I want you to hear today:

You don’t have to figure this out alone.

And you don’t have to keep guessing.

Working with a dietitian isn’t about giving you a longer “avoid” list.
It’s about helping you understand your body, reduce symptoms, and rebuild trust with food in a way that actually fits your life.

I work 1:1 with people just like you to help you overcome food fears, identify your food & lifestyle triggers, and build meals that calm your gut and fit your lifestyle, without restriction, guilt, or shame.
