One Breath, a Calmer Gut + Honoring Black Excellence in Nutrition

Hi Reader

If you live with IBS, you’ve probably noticed how closely your stress levels and gut symptoms are connected.

When life feels overwhelming, digestion often feels harder too.

That’s why I recently shared a new blog on a simple breathing practice that can help calm both your mind and your gut. It takes less than a minute and can be especially helpful when symptoms show up during stressful moments.

In this post, you’ll learn:
• Why stress affects digestion
• How your nervous system influences IBS
• A gentle 4-2-4 breathing technique you can use anytime

✨ Honoring Black History Month: Spotlight on Lauren Bell

As we celebrate Black History Month, I also want to highlight and uplift someone doing incredible work in nutrition and public health: my friend Lauren Bell.

Lauren is a second-year PhD student in the Poulos Food Security Lab at UT Austin, where she studies the connection between food access, food systems, and chronic disease in the U.S.

Her current research includes:
• Marine fish consumption on the Gulf Coast
• Central Texas’ Mobile Farmacy Program
• College student food access and basic needs

She holds an MPH in Nutrition from Tulane and a BA from George Washington University, and she’s been a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach since 2020.

Lauren’s work centers equity, access, and real-world impact, and I’m so proud of the work she’s doing.

You can follow her here for evidence-based nutrition, digestive health, and public health info:

💚 A Gentle Reminder

If your gut feels reactive lately, it doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. Often, it means your body is asking for more support, more safety, and more compassion.

Sometimes, that starts with just one breath.

And if you’re feeling stuck with IBS, food fear, or ongoing symptoms, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I’m always here to help you find a calmer, more sustainable path forward.

Wishing you ease, nourishment, and deep breaths this week.

April Recap + What I Wish You Knew About IBS ↓ Hi Reader, This month felt especially meaningful.
