Your 3-part gut-health plan before the holidays hit ๐Ÿ‚

Hi Reader,

I already have three Thanksgiving side dishes bookmarked, and it's not even October!

It's got me thinking about how the holiday stretch sneaks up the same time every year, and how much easier it is to get through when you've got a plan instead of scrambling in November.

So today I want to talk about building a plan that actually gets you through the season, not just gritting your teeth until January!

The 3-Part Plan for Heading Into the Holidays Without Starting Over

Most people wait until after the holidays to make changes, which means every year starts the same way, at zero. A practical nutrition plan that actually carries you through usually has three things going on:

โ— A clear starting point (what's working right now, what isn't)

โ— A support system (someone checking in, not just willpower)

โ— A flexible structure (room for pie, not a rigid list of rules)

Once those three are in place, the actual day-to-day gets a lot simpler. The specifics can flex from week to week, and it still works. Because the plan is doing the work, not sheer motivation.

A Few Ways to Make the Season Easier on Yourself

โ— Get support before the busy season, not after. Starting now means you're not trying to build new habits and survive a holiday party in the same week.

โ— Set one or two non-negotiables instead of ten. Fewer rules means you're more likely to actually stick with them through November and December.

โ— Plan for the parties, don't avoid them. A little prep ahead of time means you're not caught off guard and can enjoy the event instead of stay home alone.

โ— Check in regularly, even briefly. A quick weekly touchpoint catches small slips before they turn into "I'll just start over in January."

None of these mean giving anything up. They just mean going into the season with a plan instead of hoping willpower carries you through.

โ€‹A Few Ways This Might Look for You

Depending on where you're starting from, a nutrition plan might mean:

โ— Weekly check-ins to keep you steady through party season, without rigid food rules

โ— A one-time strategy session to map out your approach before the holidays hit

โ— Ongoing support so January isn't a restart, just a continuation

โ— A practical nutrition plan built around your specific goals, whether that's energy, digestion, or just feeling more in control around food

There's no one right way to start. The point is starting before the season is already halfway over!

Client Win Spotlight:

One of my nutrition clients was able to introduce a new food without any uncomfortable digestive symptoms after years of only eating the same few safe foods daily. This is a huge win and a sign that she can do hard things!

Have you ever looked at a meal and wondered... โ†“ "Will this make me sick?" Maybe you've started avoiding restaurants. Maybe your list of "safe foods" keeps getting smaller. Maybe you're hungry, but eating feels stressful because you don't know how your body will respond. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone. For many people living with gastroparesis and other digestive conditions, food starts to feel less like nourishment and more like something to fear. While making nutrition changes...

Blue yogurt container with soy milk based Greek yogurt called Tezza

My New Favorite Dairy-Free Yogurt Find โ†“ Hi Reader, As a GI dietitian, one of the questions I get asked all the time is: "Is there a dairy-free yogurt that actually tastes good?" And honestly? It's a fair question. A lot of dairy-free yogurts fall short when it comes to texture, fiber, protein, or artificial sweeteners. They can be watery, overly sweet, or just not very satisfying. So when I find something that genuinely surprises me, I have to share it. Lately, I've been loving Tezza Foods'...

Are prebiotic sodas good or bad for IBS?

Hi Reader, If your social media feed looks anything like mine, you have probably seen prebiotic sodas everywhere lately. They promise better digestion and a happier gut, and I get asked about them constantly in sessions. So I wanted to dig into the real story, and I brought in one of our dietetic interns to help break it down. Here is the short version. Prebiotic sodas contain fibers like inulin, which feed your gut bacteria, but these are also the same type of carbohydrates found in onion,...
